Instagram is testing a new type of collaborative post

Instagram is reportedly working on a feature that would let you add your own pictures or videos to an existing post.

You can enable the feature when uploading content, letting others submit their own additions – subject to your approval.

According to screenshots posted by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, added media is only visible on the original post and isn’t shared to participants’ feed or profile.

Added media shows up as a carousel, with timestamps and usernames included. You can remove media at any time if you’re the original post creator.

The use cases for brands:

This isn’t the first feature from Instagram that focuses on shared, collaborative content.

The company introduced the Add Yours feature to Stories in 2021, and last year brought the Remix feature to Reels.

If it’s launched, this feature could be a useful addition for brands’ creator partnerships or at events they might be sponsoring in tandem with other brands.

It could also impact the way we approach UGC. As opposed to a trackable hashtag, you could use this feature to easily source UGC from user additions to your original post.
